Hello Lovelies, Hope you’re all getting ready for Thanksgiving. I thank God for where I am today, for my families and friends. This is my 3rd year of sewing and each year I keep learning new stuff new ways and new approaches. I work full time so sewing is a part-time work and hobby for me.

I made this dress a few weeks ago and here is what happened. 🙂 I’ve had this fabric for a while, I love monochrome prints so anytime I walk past the stack of fabric I have piled up, I always imagine this monochrome fabric as a maxi dress. So finally I decided Yes, I was going to make a maxi dress with it.

Unknowingly for me, I didn’t realize that the fabric is only 2yrds. With the maxi imagination in my head, I thought I had enough fabric. When I got done cutting the bodice part, I realized oops I don’t have enough fabric for what I intended to sew. I went back to Hancock fabrics to see if they still have the fabric but unfortunately no.   Then I decided to find a way around it and still achieve the maxi dress. I added black sleeves and neck trim, added extra length using black.

I posted the finished dress on a mannequin to see and hear fellow designers opinions and I got mixed advice with some liking the black I added and some don’t.

So I finally have a photo of me wearing it and reposted it on the same group yesterday night. WOW, I was overwhelmed with the likes and comments. So far I have 638 likes and 195 comments. Amazing. Photo below.

I got some inspiring comments and reviews from people that have been sewing for over 25-50 yrs and I was so happy because comments like this are the ones that inspire me to keep moving and keep doing what I do.

Newlook6301 Review Below.

I’ve learned to sew 50 yrs. ago, my mother worked in the Garment Center in NYC for 50 yrs, I’ve had my own clothing design and bridal business since the 80’s- also being an artist, writer, yarn arts and fiber arts teacher- God gets all the glory (and I’m about to get into handmade soap making), but all to say that YOUR designs are from your mind and heart- and don’t let anyone tell you different! It’s the same in the art world- “what’s art to you isn’t art to me” as the saying goes, so absolutely no one can tell you what’s right or wrong, they can say their opinion, but only you can create the unique piece that expresses who you are! It’s like when someone made a comment about one of the covers to my books I’m writing, it was his opinion, but I knew there was a little gelousy behind it because he’s an artist and architect as welll, but let him write his own book and do it his way! Your dress is gorgeous- you go girl! (Ok- I’ll get off my soap box now!)   —  Dora Levitt’s Comment

You are sharing your talent. If you like it, that is all that matters. You will never find 100% of people to agree on anything. So, you did an amazing job. Wear it with pride. — June Scott’s comment

I love it. Don’t let anyone stifle your creativity. It is perfect especially since the sleeves are black. It is perfectly balanced     — Gail Jamieson Sanders ‘s comment

Pattern Review:

Pattern Description:   NewLook 6301 View A

Fabric Used:  ITY Knit for the monochrome and a very light Knit for the black.

Pattern Size:  10 but will be using 8 when next I sew it again

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?  I think so

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were very easy to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?  The pattern is very simple with no difficulty at all.

Pattern alterations or any design you made?  I used a different color for the sleeves, neck and extended the maxi from my knee down with the same color I used for the sleeve.

Would you sew it again? Yes, I will sew it again trying out different fabrics and different lengths.

Would you recommend it to others? This is a very easy pattern so Yes I recommend it.
