I fell in love with this fabric right away when I saw it at Balogun market in Lagos when I was in Nigeria a few years ago. I decided to keep it for a while since I wasn’t sure what to sew with it.

Two years ago, I decided to sew this simple dress with the fabric using McCalls 7163 pattern.

PATTERN MODIFICATIONS

Here are what I did differently on the pattern.

  1. I used view D bodice and added a few inches to extend it to my knee.
  2. I used view C sleeves and shorten the length by an inch or inch and half.
  3. Instead of adding elastic to the waist, I added a sash.

This is a very simple and easy pattern to put together. It’s also very good for beginners.

I think I will be sewing using the pattern again but this time I will be making a maxi dress and also may be using the long sleeves of view D for it.
